What is published under themed worksheets
One sheet is published under themed worksheets, and it sits deliberately later in the sequence than the letter work: themed worksheets only makes sense once single letters come out without a student thinking about them. The one here is Back to School Cursive Practice for Grade 1, written for grade 1. A single sheet is not an oversight — this stage is reached by few enough students that one good page has so far been worth more than six thin ones.
That sheet puts 17 distinct words in front of a student — pen,, bag,, bus, book,, desk,, read, art,, fun,, play, sit,, run,, learn, love, going, back, to and school., across trace, copy and freewrite blocks. Short, readable words are the point: a handwriting sheet that makes a child decode the word first is testing two things and reporting one.
Where this fits in the sequence
Cursive is taught in stroke families rather than alphabetical order, and themed worksheets sits at a particular point in that run: the undercurve letters (i, t, u, w) come first, then the loop family (e, l, h, f, k, b), the oval family (a, c, d, o, g, q), the slant letters (n, m, v, x, y, z) and finally the mixed strokes (r, s, j, p).
Themed Worksheets is stage 7 of 7 in that sequence. Lowercase Letters, Uppercase Letters, Letter Connections, Word Practice, Sentence Practice and Paragraph Practice come first and should be comfortable before this page is much use. Nothing comes after it: this is the last stage, and it is where the practice becomes ordinary writing.
These sheets are written for grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, grade 4, grade 5 and grade 6 and exercise mixed, across back to school, halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, valentines, spring, summer and winter themes. Every one prints on US Letter or A4 with four-rule guided lines — solid topline, dashed midline, solid baseline, dashed descender — so letter height stays consistent from the first sheet to the last.
